The new coalition agreement for Austria’s upcoming government outlines a significant market overhaul, including a tax increase on sports betting and online casino products. 💰 From a regulatory standpoint, major changes are on the horizon: Austria will (finally!) establish an independent gambling commission, tasked with market monitoring and managing the upcoming licensing tender process. 🎟️🏛️ In addition, the government plans to re-regulate lootboxes to enhance player protection. 🛡️🎮
Meanwhile, landmark rulings from Austrian and European courts continue to shape the legal landscape: The CJEU is set to rule on key questions regarding formal and material laws in director claims, while a Maltese court has just ruled that Austrian judgments ordering refunds of gambling losses are not enforceable in Malta. ⚖️🌍
